Experience

Experience and honor are two very important factors in DarkOrbit which not only define your own personality but which also determine your career advancement. Experience can be gained at DarkOrbit by shooting down enemies in space.

With an increasing amount of experience, you can upgrade your pilot license step by step so that you will be able to navigate your ship to new sectors of space.

The different experience levels:
Level 01: Access to your company’s X-1 and X-2 maps.
Level 02: 20,000 EPs, direct access allowed from your company’s X-3 map to the X-4 map.
Level 03: 20.000 EP, direkter Zugang von X-3 zu X-4 der eigenen Firma.
Level 04: 40,000 EPs.
Level 05: 80,000 EPs, access to an enemy company’s X-3 map or X-4 map.
Level 06: 160,000 EPs, direct access allowed from an enemy company’s X-3 map to the X-4 map.
Level 07: 320,000 EPs.
Level 08: 640,000 EPs, access to the PvP maps: 4-1, 4-2, 4-3.
Level 09: 1,280,000 EPs, access to the PvP map: 4-4.
Level 10: 2,560,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-5 map.
Level 11: 5,120,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-6 map and the X-7 map.
Level 12: 10,240,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-8 map.
Level 13: 20,480,000 EPs, access to an enemy company’s X-2 maps.
Level 14: 40,960,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-5 map.
Level 15: 81.920.000 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-6 and X-7 maps.
Level 16: 163,840,000 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-1 maps. In the old system (X-1), you can reach the enemy space station.
Level 17: 3327,680,00 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-8 maps. In the new system (X-8), you can reach the enemies' space stations.

Honor

Honor is also a very important aspect of the game. It can also be gained by shooting down enemies. You profit in two ways from honor points: It influences the sales price of raw materials on the space station as well as the damage caused by your weapons.

Calculation of damage:
damage = amount (laser) * ammo factor;
damage = [damage * ( 1 + level / 30 ) - damage / 100 * random (0–25)];
damage = damage * lab update factor;

The accuracy of your laser is calculated separately.

Having a negative number of honor points can also have a negative effect on your career. For dishonorable pilots, this is what the damage deduction systems looks like:
<-200 = 10% less damage (90% total damage)
<-500 = 20% less damage (80% total damage)
<-100 = 40% less damage (60% total damage)
<-2,000 = 70% less damage (30% total damage)
<-1,000 = 90% less damage (10% total damage)

Experience and honor will have a direct effect on your ranking, which you can see in the “Hall of Fame”. This is the formula used: EPs/1,000 + Honor/100 = Ranking points.

Missions

Your company will offer you different missions which are very much worth your while to accept. At the beginning of your career, the selection of missions will be very limited, but the more experience you gain, the more access you’ll have to even more difficult missions. You’ll find these missions in the overview under “Quests”. In general there are three types of missions:

- Raw material collection
To conduct different types of research, certain types of raw materials are required. You’ll find raw materials scattered across the galaxy. Collect the required amount of raw materials and collect your reward.

- NPC quests
The security of our solar systems are constantly under threat from different types of NPC enemies. Equip your ship and don’t wait even one single second; shoot down the required number of NPCs and cash in big time.

- Company wars
This is where things get down to the nitty-gritty: You’ve completed all the necessary quests and collected the required amount of experience, now it’s up to you to decimate the ranks of hostile pilots. Warning: This isn’t an easy task! Hunting down enemies demands that you fly deep into enemy territory. Just remember that a good pilot doesn’t make reckless decisions – make sure your ship is always armed to the teeth!
