Everything about space maps and battle maps …

There are four different sectors of space in DarkOrbit, all of which have been marked with an X-Y combination.

- X stands for the company which has control over this area of space;
- Y represents the number for each respective map.

At the moment, the three companies at DarkOrbit have the company maps X-1 to X-8. You’ll also see that there are other alien-free maps (no NPCs) called battle maps which are marked with a 4-X.

There are special rules to abide by when on these maps:

- Jump portals can be only used when you’re not under attack.
- Shooting down enemy ships will net you 25% more honor and experience than usual.
- Bonus boxes have 50% more content inside them on these maps.

The battle map 4-4 is a special map: It is the central map connecting maps 1-5, 2-5 and 3-5, and can only be reached by using one of the central jump portals which can be found on the maps: 4-1, 4-2 or 4-3.

The best plan of action is to check out the current surroundings. To do this, just click on the symbol on the bottom right of the map where you’re currently flying and its corresponding space map will open up for you. You’ll also be able to see all the different jump portals which connect the different sectors of space with each other.

Just remember that you won’t be able to use some of the jump portals at the beginning of your space pilot career; they’ll only open up to you when you advance to another level of your career:

Level 01: Access to your company’s X-1 and X-2 maps.
Level 02: 10,000 experience points (EPs), access to your company’s X-3 and X-4 maps.
Level 03: 20,000 EPs, direct access allowed from your company’s X-3 map to the X-4 map.
Level 04: 40,000 EPs.
Level 05: 80,000 EPs, access to an enemy company’s X-3 map or X-4 map.
Level 06: 160,000 EPs, direct access allowed from an enemy company’s X-3 map to the -4 map.
Level 07: 320,000 EPs
Level 08: 640,000 EPs, access to the PvP maps: 4-1, 4-2, 4-3.
Level 09: 1,280,000 EPs, access to the PvP map: 4-4.
Level 10: 2,560,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-5 map.
Level 11: 5,120,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-6 map and the X-7 map.
Level 12: 10,240,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-8 map.
Level 13: 20,480,000 EPs, access to an enemy company’s X-2 maps.
Level 14: 40,960,000 EPs, access to your company’s X-5 map.
Level 15: 81.920.000 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-6 and X-7 maps.
Level 16: 163,840,000 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-1 maps. You can reach the enemy space station in the old system (X-1).
Level 17: 327,680,00 EPs, access to all enemy companies’ X-8 maps. You can reach the enemy space station in the old system (X-8).

Fleets/Clans – a couple of tips for existing and future lieutenant commanders

The companies at DarkOrbit provide you with many good chances to climb the career ladder; you could even advance to the rank of lieutenant commander. So go ahead, form your own clan and hunt enemies together with your friends. If you don’t have enough pocket change to start your own clan, don’t fret: You can always join an existing clan instead.

The company requires that you pay a little processing fee for both avenues of approach:
Clan foundation: 300,000 credits
Clan entry: 50,000 credits

What are the benefits of being in a clan?
- You can even attack powerful opponents when you unite with other allied pilots.
- You get help in completing missions.
- You receive financial support.
- ...and a bunch of other exciting bonuses which, of course, vary according to each clan

What are the disadvantages of being in a clan?
- You have to pay a certain daily fee in credits (between 0-5%) for clan taxes.
- If a clan member infuriates another clan, you’ll probably also have to suffer the consequences.

Which clan should I choose?
This isn’t our decision; it’s all up to you. Just remember: First impressions can be misleading. The loudest clan isn’t always the strongest, largest and best clan for you. Just listen to your gut and select a clan that suits you and meets your needs.

Don't forget that you’re not allowed to look for a clan or advertise a clan in the chat. A list of all the different clans can be found in the forum.
